Current Projects
The team of the MEDICAL VOICE CENTER is testing a very new concept of pulsed laser effects on human tissues – the picosecond infrared laser (PIRL). Our previous multidisciplinary studies and publications revealed that healing of dissections on skin and the vocal fold surface, the epithelium, can be achieved almost scar-free. This effect was never encountered by using any other traditional laser types before and would be a quantum jump in the treatment of vocal fold pathologies. Our Hamburg research group is worldwide the first to work on such a thrilling project. Together with the University Medical Center of Hamburg-Eppendorf and the Max Planck Institute for the Structures and Dynamics of Matter (under lead physicist Dwayne Miller) we believe that the advantageous properties of this new laser technology will truly benefit our patients in the near future.
